Lawrence Central High School was established at its present site in 1963. It was expanded and renovated in 1971, 1986, and 1990. A rich curriculum serves a variety of student needs. Experiencing the strengths of diversity, students take advantage of a wide variety of course and extracurricular opportunities for their future roles in a global society.
Lawrence Central was officially accepted into the International Baccalaureate Programme in July 2003. Advanced placement, Lyceum and honors level courses exist in abundance. There are also a variety of programs to promote academic success for struggling students.
There are ten different academic departments here at LC. While there are similarities among them, each have unique characteristics.
Lawrence Central High School encourages students to take advantage of a wide variety of course opportunities which will impact their future role in our global society. College Credit, Advanced Placement (AP), Advanced College Project (ACP), International Baccalaureate (IB), and Lyceum (GT) curricular options are available in core academic subject areas. Vocational offerings are available in collaboration with the McKenzie Career Center, where students learn skills valued in today’s job market. Lawrence Central students can also receive support through alternative programs at the KIND (Kids in New Directions) School, the Diploma Recovery Program and the “Senior Saves” Program.
Interdisciplinary courses are offered at Lawrence Central, creating opportunities for contextual relevance in instruction. Another initiative has been to implement programs facilitating inclusion of special needs students with general education students. As a comprehensive high school, Lawrence Central offers a wide variety of course choices reflecting a broad spectrum of college prep, academic, vocational, English as a New Language and Special Education, to allow all students varied education experiences and preparation.
Freshman arriving at Lawrence Central experience teaming in two or three hour blocks so that they can get to know several teachers and groups of students well. this transition program focuses on development of personal management skills necessary to experience success in high school.
Lawrence Central High School has traditionally supplied the students and staff with a tremendous amount of technology resources. Students have access both during the school day and before and after school in multiple lab settings. Most teachers utilize Internet capabilities to varying degrees in the preparation and execution of their lesson plans and they routinely use word processing. Because of the technology-rich environment, classroom activities have moved from an emphasis on technologies and technology skills to focus on information literacy, research, questioning and standards-based learning. Lawrence Central students are challenged to analyze, infer, interpret and synthesize with a mixture of classical and digital tools.

Lawrence Central High School was inspected by an accredited and licensed asbestos building inspector who declared the building to be asbestos free. (Accreditation #191523030)
