SAT Testing

Colleges/Universities require that students take the SAT Reasoning Test or ACT for college admission (check with the colleges/universities of interest to see requirements).  It is recommended that students take the SAT Reasoning Test and/or ACT during their junior year.  Seniors can retake the tests early in the fall if they want to improve their scores.  The SAT Reasoning Test has three sections: Critical Reading, Math and Writing. Scores for each section range from 200-800, and the essay is graded on a 12 point scale.

  • Registering online is the preferred method.
  • Paper registration forms are available in the guidance office.
  • Cost for the SAT is $51.00 (Fee waivers are avaiable for students who receive free/reduced lunch)

Students in grades 9 -12 may take a SAT Subject Test.  These tests are separate from the general SAT Reasoning Test.  These one-hour tests cover subjects studied in school and should be taken upon completion of the corresponding course.  Up to 3 Subject Tests may be taken in a single day.  Many colleges/universities do not require that students take the SAT Subject Test(s) -- students should check with the colleges/universities in which they are interested to see if any are required.

Test Preparation

We also have SAT prep packets that are provided by the College Board available in the LC Guidance Department.
