Lawrence Central Parent Faculty Organization is a partnership of parents, staff, and community that supports the Lawrence Township Schools’ vision of “integrity, achievement, and service” by facilitating productive communication, promoting volunteerism and contributing to student enrichment. The PFO communicates with these groups via monthly meetings, newsletters, Principal’s all call on Sundays, and open communication. The PFO offers hospitality for select school events. Funds are raised for these events, academic pursuits, and other purposes via two major fundraisers: the PFO Breakfast Program and the Campaign for Academic Excellence. The PFO is very proud to have raised funds for Lawrence Central to use for a variety of teacher grants and teacher and staff hospitality. Of course, our most important resource is our volunteers!
All parents/guardians are members of PFO. There is no fee to join, although donations are always welcome. It is not necessary to attend PFO meetings to become involved. Statistics have shown that parental involvement in a child’s school has a direct affect on the child’s success in school. Whether you have one hour a week, a month, or more, your involvement is always welcomed. Everyone benefits from whatever time you can give!!
Parents, Teachers and Staff can register online at krogercommunityrewards.com with their Kroger Plus shopper number. Once you register with your number, please select the Lawrence Central High School PFO with the NPO number 12093. A percentage of all purchases will be calculated and the LC PFO will receive a check from this program!
PFO Breakfast Program
Campaign for Excellence
Lawrence Central’s PFO is committed to promoting excellence and rigor at Lawrence Central High School. In response to parent suggestions, monetary donations are requested to fund the Campaign for Excellence. Through the funds raised in this campaign, we give teacher grants that have a direct impact on student learning and student incentives. Your voluntary contribution is 100% tax deductible. Many corporations will match charitable contributions.
The Breakfast Program is the longest running and most successful fundraiser for the PFO. Parent volunteers staff the breakfast table in the Commons each morning before school begins, selling a variety of pre-packaged, nutritious breakfast and snack items to students and staff. This ongoing fundraiser also provides a great opportunity for parents to volunteer about 1-1/2 hours one morning a month.
Box Tops for Education
The PFO collects Box Tops for Education as another way to raise funds to support the PFO’s efforts at LC. Students can bring their Box Tops to school anytime and deposit them in the collection box in the Bookstore or give them to a teacher.
Lawrence Central Parent Newsletter
Information for all departments is compiled and sent out in one newsletter for Lawrence Central. The newsletter contains valuable information about what is happening at LC including upcoming dates and other pertinent information parents should know. The newsletter is typically emailed bi-monthly to every student’s parent/guardian at Lawrence Central.
The PFO monthly business meetings are typically held at 1pm on the 3rd Friday of each month
during the school year. The meetings include a Principal’s Report from Mr. Bush, treasurer’s report, committee reports and discussion of any old and new issues. Occasional guest speakers are invited to speak on various topics of interest to the group. Everyone is welcome to attend these informative meetings. Meeting dates are publicized in the Parent Newsletter.
Lawrence Central’s PFO Hospitality Committee provides food for various events as needed throughout the school year. Lunch is served to welcome teachers and administrators on their first day back to school. Teachers are treated to snacks and beverages between conferences during Parent-Teacher Conference Day. A special meal is hosted in their honor at the end of the year. Hospitality assists with other events as requested by the administration.
Teachers and staff at Lawrence Central may apply for PFO grants each year to help supplement curriculum and their efforts in the classroom that are not supported by the general fund. Past grants have included funding for such things as guest speakers, field trip assistance, AVID college visits, equipment such as a kiln for the art department and a camera for the Cub Reporter and yearbook staffs, accessories to support or enhance usage of classroom Promethean boards, a variety of books and subscriptions, to name a few. Donations to the Campaign for Academic Excellence
and profits from the PFO Breakfast Program help fund these grants.
Through the PFO, LC parents strive to offer assistance to teachers and administrators in their efforts to educate our children by providing much-needed volunteer manpower. Volunteers are critical to the success of the PFO's largest fundraiser: the Breakfast Program and volunteer efforts are especially appreciated with hospitality events. Other ways volunteers can have a significant impact include tutoring & general supervising in the MAC (My Achievement Center.) If your schedule doesn’t allow for assisting on an ongoing basis in any one area, on-call volunteers are also needed for unexpected needs that arise throughout the school year in which you can help however best fits your schedule.
Parents who wish to have a more involved role in the PFO are especially encouraged and welcome to attend and participate in PFO executive board meetings as an at-large board member. Parent volunteers are always needed and play an important role in our school environment.
